About Me
My name is Katelyn Schang and I am from South Lyon, Michigan. I attended high school at South Lyon High School and graduated in June 2020. In the fall I plan on attending the University of Findlay in Ohio to study animal science with an emphasis in pre-veterinary medicine.
During my high school career, I was very involved in several different extracurriculars as well as many activities and groups outside of school. For all four years of high school I ran cross country, and was chosen by my coaches to be a captain for both my junior and senior year. I also maintained active membership in my school’s National Honor Society and LINK Crew (a freshman welcoming committee).
Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time volunteering at the Humane Society of Huron Valley. I love working with animals, and I’m excited to continue that into my college career. I also love playing music; I have been playing piano for over 11 years, and violin for almost 6. Finally, I have been speaking Spanish for 6 years and have been acknowledged by the state as biliterate.
Volunteering Experience
Humane Society of Huron Valley
Through the humane society, I have gained a lot of valuable experience with animals through their junior volunteer program. With this program, I have been able to spend a lot of time working with dogs by sitting with them and learning about their behavior.
Milford Presbyterian Church
Ever since 2015, I've been apart of my church's youth group, through which I've been able to take part in several different fundraisers and mission trips. My experience through my church originally taught me how good it feels to help others, and set the groundwork for future volunteering missions.
National Honor Society
I was inducted into my high school's National Honor Society in the first year I could join it- junior year. Through this group's guidance, I've been able to participate in thousands of volunteering activities, from Salvation Army bell ringing to helping out younger kids at elementary schools.
