VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering has always been a big part of my life, and I've always made it an effort to continue with it, even when it's hard. Especially when it comes to animal volunteering, it's been one of my biggest efforts that I've kept up with since middle school. I have a lot of animal-related volunteering and shadowing experiences--for example, I shadowed four surgeries at VCA Animal Hospital in Brighton, regularly volunteer at the Humane Society of Huron Valley, and plan to either work or volunteer at the Howell Nature Center this summer. Outside of animal volunteering, I stay active in other service groups dedicated to volunteering as well, such as my church's youth group, National Honor Society, and Families Building Faith. Some of my most notable experiences are noted below.

Church

Youth

Group

As part of the youth group, I get to partake in many different volunteering experiences, such as:

- Mission trip to help a school in Philadelphia

- Annual 30 Hour Famine to raise money for Key of Hope

- Made sub sandwiches for our church

Humane

Society

From my regular volunteering at the Humane Society of Huron Valley, I've been able to get a lot of experience with animals, from working with dogs to taking training sessions on the behavior of different animals. Regularly, on my shifts, I sit with the animals--mostly dogs-- to comfort and calm them.

National

Honor

Society

I joined my school's NHS program in my junior year. Since then, I've been able to participate in many service opportunities such as:

- Ringing bells for Salvation Army

- Volunteering at Salem Elementary

- Helping build Easter baskets at Families Building Faith
